Super Mario

Frog Mario is a recurring transformation in the Mario franchise, and it first appears in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Description[]

Mario or Luigi can become their Frog form by touching a Frog Suit. Frog Mario can swim underwater faster, allowing him to push back against currents while swimming; this ability would later be inherited by the Penguin Suit in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Frog Mario is controlled more easily while underwater, since can stop instantly, in a single spot in the water, and swim in any direction.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Obtaining a Frog Suit transforms Mario or Luigi into his Frog form. Frog Mario's inability to crouch or slide makes him incapable of completing certain levels that require him to do so. Frog Mario moves slower on land, as he can move only in short hops, and is incapable of crouching or sliding down slopes. Frog Mario is still capable of carrying objects like Koopa Shells, and he jumps higher and does not slip on Ice Blocks.

Super Mario Maker[]

Frog Mario is one of the unlockable Mystery Mushroom costumes in Super Mario Maker. It is unlocked by completing the NES REMIX level. While in this form, the jump sound effect, death tune, and course clear theme are all reused from Super Mario Bros. 3. By pressing Up on the D-Pad, Frog Mario stands upright, in the manner of his standard pose from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Weird Mario may appear as Frog Mario if a Warp Door is knocked in Edit Mode in the Super Mario Bros. 3 style.

Super Mario Maker 2[]

The Frog Suit was introduced in the version 3.0.0 update as the Super Mario Bros. 3 game style's second unique power-up. The disadvantages of Frog Mario from Super Mario Bros. 3 were addressed, as Frog Mario can move faster on land than before, crouch, and slope slide. Additionally, he can run on water while carrying an object if the P-Meter is maxed out.

The Frog form received some aesthetic differences. In multiplayer, each character is distinctly colored while in their Frog form: Frog Mario is red; Frog Luigi remains green; Frog Toad is blue with a beige spot on each side; and Frog Toadette has the same appearance, but magenta with her pigtails shown. Additionally, Frog Suit's expression changes for certain poses, such as closing its eyes while crouching, appearing angry while running or jumping with an object or other character, and its pupils looking up while carrying a player without running, much like the Frog Mario costume from Super Mario Maker.

Weird Mario can also return in the Frog form via the same means as in Super Mario Maker.

In WarioWare: Twisted![]

Frog Mario appears in the Super Mario Bros. 3 microgame as one of the power-ups that Mario can choose from; if the microgame's command is "Frog!", the player has to select the Frog transformation for Mario.

Frog Mario is depicted similarly as in Super Mario Bros. 3, but with a slightly different palette, and the costume's large eyes are visible on top.

In Paper Mario series[]

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[]

A form of Frog Mario appears when using a Frog Suit sticker. It only overlays the sticker onto Mario, rather than turning him into Frog Mario. With this sticker, Mario can dodge enemy attacks by jumping, and his jump attacks are also stronger, though only for one turn.

Paper Mario: Color Splash[]

Frog Mario appears similarly as in Paper Mario: Sticker Star, although this time the Frog Suit granting the form appears in the form of a Battle Card. Frog Mario has the same abilities as before, but now lasts until Mario takes damage or wins the fight.
