Frogs are real-world amphibians which have appeared in the Mario franchise and related media.
In Super Mario Odyssey[]
Frogs are the first capture that Mario can use Cappy on, specifically the one in Bonneton, but Frogs also appear in Honeylune Ridge and the Darker Side. Some of them wear a small top hat prior to being captured. A plush frog is also a souvenir for the Cap Kingdom.
As a frog, Mario can jump much higher than normal, and the player can have him jump even higher by shaking the Joy-Con. The high-jumping abilities of a Frog are required for Mario to reach higher areas. Sometimes before being captured, they wear small top hats.
According to the Moon Kingdom brochure, the frogs there were brought by the Moon's first pioneers; seeing a "Moon Frog" is said to be a good omen.
