"Let's hear it for the Super Mario Brothers!"
—Spike celebrating with the rest of Brooklyn at the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Foreman Spike is a minor character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He is voiced by Sebastian Maniscalco.

Biography[]

He was Mario and Luigi's former boss, who treated them as slaves at the Wrecking Crew, before the Mario Bros. started their own plumbing business[2][3]. He is first seen in Punch-Out!! Pizzeria, where he makes fun of the Mario Bros. Later on, as elements from the Mushroom Kingdom come into Brooklyn, Foreman Spike witnesses Mario in a fight against Bowser and takes refuge. He is later attacked by Shy Guys Hammer Bros and Dry Bones until a Star-powered Luigi saves him. After Bowser's defeat, Foreman Spike grows to respect the Mario Bros. alongside the dog, Francis.

Physical Appearance[]

Spike has a slightly different appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, wearing an all blue workman's uniform with no overalls and a cap instead of a hardhat, with his nose being noticeably smaller than in previous design. The left sleeve of his shirt and his cap also possess the "Wrecking Crew" logo.

Quotes[]

"Spike: Well, well, well. If it isn't Brooklyn's favorite failures, the Stupid Mario Bros.!
Luigi: Oh great... Spike's here.
Mario: Hey, Spike.
Spike: Yeah, (in a comically high-pitched voice) IT'S-A ME!!! (maniacal laughter) Tell me: have you even gotten ONE call since you left me to start your dumb company?
Luigi: As a matter of fact, Spike, we have!
Mario: Wow! Really?
Luigi: Ah, Yeah! Our mom called and she said, "Aw, boys, that's the best commercial I've ever seen!" And I said, "Thank you very much, mother! We're very proud of it!" So BOOM! (accidentally drops his phone)
(Mario feels embarrassed)
Spike: (laughs) Good luck running a business with this idiot. (throws a napkin at Luigi, which Mario catches)
Mario: Say that again about my brother, and you're gonna regret it. (tosses the napkin back at Spike)
Spike: (gets up) Oh yeah?! (grabs Mario by the overalls) Get this through your tiny brain, Mario! You're a joke — and you always will be. [drops Mario]
Mario: Oof!
[Spike leaves the restaurant]
Luigi: Are you insane?! He's three times your size!
Mario: Luigi, c'mon... y'know, you can't be scared all the time.
Luigi: Mmm, you'd be surprised."
—Spike's first appearance, mocking Mario and Luigi.

Trivia[]

  • His attire in The Super Mario Bros. Movie bears a high resemblance to Fix-It Felix, Jr. from Wreck-It-Ralph. This is somewhat ironic since Bowser and a Super Mushroom appear in the film (with Mario even being planned to appear in Wreck-it-Ralph before being cut from the finished product).
