Super Mario Yoshi
Not to be confused with Lakitu, particularly instances when they use a fishing rod.

Fishin' Lakitu is a variant of Lakitu which first appears in Super Mario World. Fishin' Lakitus look just like their regular counterparts, although (hence their name) they carry around a fishing rod with them, although regular Lakitus have since also done the same.

In Super Mario series

Super Mario World

Fishin Lakitu SMW sprite

Only one Fishin' Lakitu makes an appearance, and it is encountered at Forest of Illusion 4, where it carries a 1-Up Mushroom on the hook of its fishing rod. The 1-Up Mushroom serves as bait for Mario or Luigi because if they collect it, the Fishin' Lakitu begins starts to act like a regular Lakitu and by throwing Spiny Eggs at them. Like regular Lakitus, a Fishin' Lakitu can be defeated by either jumping on it or by attacking it using a fireball.

Fishin' Lakitus have an undead variant found in Ghost Houses named Fishin' Boos, which carry blue fire with them.

Super Mario Odyssey

Fishin' Lakitu is seen fishing for Cheep Cheeps. He can be captured by Cappy and used to fish. If a fish is caught, it will reward players with a heart or, if they catch the right fish, a Power Moon. He appears in multiple kingdoms and is not hostile.

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Fishin' Lakitu also appears as an enemy, exclusively within Hookbill the Koopa's Castle. Here, Fishin' Lakitu tries to steal Baby Mario using his fishing rod.

In Mario Kart series

Main article: Lakitu (referee)

A Fishin' Lakitu named Lakitu appears throughout the Mario Kart series. He acts as the referee, holding the starting lights and saving racers who fall out of bounds.
