Fireworks is a recurring object which appears throughout the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario Bros..
In Super Mario series[]
Super Mario Bros.[]
Fireworks are sometimes displayed after Mario or Luigi slide down the Flagpole. This typically happens when the last digit of the timer is either a 1, 3, or 6. Each Firework is worth 500 points.
In the remake Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, when the player completes the game and fireworks have been shown at least once, an Album picture of Mario making a peace sign in front of a castle with fireworks in the background is unlocked.
New Super Mario Bros.[]
A number of fireworks are shown whenever Mario or Luigi touch a Flagpole while the last two digits of the timer are the same. The number of fireworks shown corresponds to the digit that the last two numbers of the timer ended on (e.g. ending a level with "33" as the last two digits displays three fireworks). Each firework rewards a higher number of 4,000 points per explosion, for a maximum of 36,000, if there are nine fireworks from ending the timer on "99."
In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[]
Fireworks are a rather important side item. Fireworks can be bought from a mole in Moleville for 500 coins. The Fireworks can then be traded for the Shiny Stone which then can unlock the door in Monstro Town in order to fight Culex. Multiple Fireworks can be purchased, and the number of Fireworks bought affects the fireworks display during the end of the parade during the ending; buying at least two yields a Mushroom during the ending, at least three for a Fire Flower, and at least five for a Star.
In Luigi's Mansion[]
In the Training Room, fireworks are shown for cosmetic after Luigi's training concludes with him capturing Gold Ghosts. The number of fireworks shown corresponds how many Gold Ghosts Luigi has caught.
