"Fire Sale" is the first episode of the Super Mario World cartoon.
Synopsis[]
King Koopa gives Kootie Pie her own castle in Ice Land, and she treasures it very much, but despises its sub-zero temperature. So she decides to kidnap Mama Fireplant, a Piranha Plant who provides heat for the citizens of Dome City. Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi are hosting a barbecue and they send Yoshi to Mama Fireplant's house to pick up some fireballs with which to start the fire. Just as Yoshi is coming, Kootie Pie and her accomplice, a silent Red Koopa Troopa, show up and kidnap her. Yoshi overhears Mama Fireplant's cries for help, but due to his cowardice, doesn't show up in time to stop Kootie Pie.
Yoshi brings the Mario Bros. and Princess Toadstool to the scene of the crime, where they find a piece of ice, giving them a clue the kidnappers took Mama Fireplant to Ice Land. Upon their arrival in Ice Land, they find that the place is melting because of the heat Mama Fireplant is providing; if this keeps up, it will soon flood all of Dinosaur Land therefore she sings a song, the Kootie Pie Rap. The good guys track Kootie Pie, who is plotting to make the cave-people buy fireballs from her (hence the episode's title), down to her hideout, but the Mario Bros. and the princess are soon frozen in place due to accidentally stepping on Urchins (see Trivia/Goofs below) coming from out of the water under the melting ice. Kootie Pie, seemingly unaware that her palace is fast turning to slush, attempts to take down Yoshi, but ends up getting stung and frozen as well. Yoshi then proceeds to rescue Mama Fireplant and save his friends while he's at it, and they safely return Mama Fireplant to her home.

Trivia/Goofs[]
- This episode marks Yoshi's animated debut. Thus, he is the only Mario character from the games to have actually been brought to animation through DiC Entertainment (all the other regulars of the previous series had actually made their animated debuts in the obscure anime OVAs, with Mario himself having appeared on the Saturday Supercade).
- Unusually for the premiere episode of a Mario cartoon, Bowser himself is not present (except on the cover of the magazine the Koopa Troopa is reading at the end).
- Wendy's palace was either in Super Mario Bros. 3's Ice land (which is not in Dinosaur Land, but in the Mushroom Kingdom), or the Vanilla Dome. In addition, it was Lemmy who took over Ice land in Super Mario Bros. 3 as well as Vanilla Dome.
- This is Wendy's first appearance in the Super Mario World television series.
- Also, this is the only episode in the series where Wendy has a speaking role.
- Throughout this episode, Yoshi has aquaphobia, even though this is not present in any of the Mario or later Yoshi games. The closest instance of this is in Super Mario Sunshine, in which Yoshi disappears if it touches a large body of water.
- Additionally, when Yoshi trips on the bridge and lands in the ankle-high water, he is not scared at all.
- Yoshi states when that one steps on an Urchin, they shall freeze for an unknown amount of time, rather in the game, it would just hurt Mario or Luigi.
- In the scene where Mario and Luigi are hugging each other, Mario's hair is black.
- This is the last time that a Koopa Troopa appears in any of the DiC Entertainment cartoons and the only time in the Super Mario World cartoon.
- When you first see the Paragoombas, their feet are missing.
- When Yoshi says "But do I have to do it now?", his eyes have shrunken.
- The Koopa would have frozen at the end without a shell, although he lacked a shell and managed to still be fine.
