Salvo the Slime is a giant slime who first appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island as a boss.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[]
Salvo is the first world boss, being encountered in Salvo The Slime's Castle at the end of World 1. When encountered by Yoshi, Salvo starts off as a regular Lemon Drop, but like most other boss fights, Kamek arrives to make Salvo significantly larger. Salvo cannot directly hurt Yoshi but instead pushes him along. There is lava under the room, with a hole at one end that Yoshi risks falling in. Salvo never falls down the hole. Whenever Salvo is hit by an egg, he gets slightly smaller, and several regular sized Lemon Drops break off him. Salvo becomes gradually smaller until he bubbles down to just his eyes, which pop, ending the battle and unlocking World 2.
Later on, in King Bowser's Castle, Yoshi has to fight some Slimes in order to acquire a key in order to progress. Unlike Salvo, the Lemon Drops are not created from the Slimes, and the Yoshi has to be careful to make sure their egg rebounds and hits the Slime more than once. When a Slime is defeated, it bubbles down in a similar fashion to Salvo before the key comes out.
In Mario Party Advance[]
Salvo reappears in Mario Party Advance as the second boss in the Duel Tower. He challenges the player to the minigame Volleybomb, and if the player clears it, they unlock the minigame.
In Yoshi's Island DS[]
Salvo makes a cameo in Yoshi's Island DS in the game's opening along with the other bosses from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Trivia[]
- In the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Player's Guide, the Slime in Bowser's Castle is considered to be the same as Salvo the Slime, although the Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 Player's Guide.retcons this by making it separate from Salvo.
