Captain Goomba (クリボー隊長 Kuribō Taichō?, Captain Goomba) is the protagonist in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser. Before gaining his title, he was called Goomba.

Physical description[]
Captain Goomba, with the name Goomba, is a regular Goomba identical to other Goombas. While recruiting the crew, Goomba had a new appearance with a red flag on his head. The red flag has a yellow outline, yellow ornament and a metal pole connected to a yellow collar. The collar sticks onto Goomba's head.
Personality traits[]
Captain Goomba is an enthusiastic and determined leader. At the start of Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser, its fellow minions mention to Captain Goomba with the "aura of stupidity". Throughout the story, Captain Goomba gained trust from Bowser's minions. After rescuing Bowser, Ludwig von Koopa gained trust from Captain Goomba.

Normal abilities[]
- Charge: As a Melee troop, Captain Goomba charges into his foes.
- Rocket Headbutt: His Special Skill allows him to jump up and land head first onto an enemy to deal great damage to them.
- Leadership: Throughout the entirety of the game, Captain Goomba's leadership has been demonstrated and tested amongst his fellow companions. Usually, whenever Captain Goomba sets a plan in motion, his other captains, like Captain Shy Guy and Captain Boo either don't take him seriously or believe his idea will only get them into unnecessary trouble. Nevertheless, Captain Goomba has always had a focused mindset on rescuing his leader Bowser, which further drives his motivation and leadership skills. Towards the quest at Bowser's Castle, it seems that Captain Goomba's leadership skills have evolved to the point of where he has gained the respect of not only the minions of Bowser's army, but also the higher-ranking generals such as the Elite Trio, the Koopalings, and even by Bowser himself. However, it seems that, as of his demotion towards the end of Minion Quest and subsequent moments featuring the four captains (plus Captain Koopa Troopa) in Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Captain Goomba's leadership skills have seemingly faltered due to his anxiety of upsetting Bowser again. His leadership and courage however, have not gone unnoticed, as proven by characters like Morton Koopa Jr., the other three minion captains, and Ludwig von Koopa.
Captain commands[]
- Deny: Like with all captains in the game, Captain Goomba can deny an enemy of using their Special Skill, which takes up 1 CP.
- Chance: Captain Goomba can hit a Block which causes a random event to happen, such as status increase for his team, or status decrease for the enemies' team, etc. Takes 3 CP to use.
- Rally: Captain Goomba can rally up his troops to temporarily raise their SPIRIT stats and allow them to excute their Special Skills more frequently. Costs 4 CP to use.
- Clash of Captains: Exclusively to ally captains such as Captain Goomba, he can challenge the enemy captain to a one-on-one showdown. He'll take damage from any incoming enemies as he charges through, but gains a fiery aura that allows him to perform his Rocket Headbutt move whenever he gets to attack. Some other enemy Melee captains use this ability as well.

Inside Koopa Cruiser[]
- "Let's band in together next time. Strength in numbers and all."

By the name, Goomba, is affiliated with the Koopa Troop who was present in the group before boarding the Koopa Cruiser. The Koopa Troop blocked Luigi's path who was mistaken to be part of the troop. After everyone attended the cruiser, the Koopa Cruiser flew to the skies.
Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi encountered a Koopa Troopa who is struggling to capture Goomba and the other Goomba. Koopa Troopa asked Mario and Luigi to help him capture them, Koopa Troopa also taught Mario and Luigi how to battle them. After defeating the two Goombas, Koopa Troopa managed to trap them inside separate Barrels as Mario and Luigi left the room.

Goomba and Goomba quietly complained about Mario and Luigi stomping on them "again", whispering to each other to "band together next time" and up their game". Koopa Troopa hears them whispering and demands them to "keep quiet". Roy Koopa, Wendy O. Koopa and Iggy Koopa arrives to Koopa Troopa; Roy asked if he has finished, which Koopa replies that he finished. The three Koopalings walked closer to the barrels and mocked the Goombas. Another Koopa alerts Roy, Wendy and Iggy about the Koopa Cruiser is under attack. Unfortunately, after Bowser helped Mario and Luigi battle against Fawful, Fawful destroyed the Koopa Cruiser, resulting the Koopa Cruiser to explode that sent attendees flying off into different locations.
On Hoohoo Mountain[]

Goomba who was inside the barrel has crashed into a cave that was between Stardust Fields and Hoohoo Village. From his rude awakening, Goomba woke up and looked around inside the cave questioning where he was, Bowser and his minions. Goomba calls to question anyone nearby, realizing that he was alone and had no idea where he was. By surprise, Goomba heard the rumbling outside and decided to check.

Goomba realized he was on Hoohoo Mountain and wondered if there are minions nearby and was hoping that Bowser was alright.

Because if you do… Hoo hoo hoo hoo hoooooo… A horrible fate awaits you.Goomba was shocked to see Bowser in the sky, who had been launched out of the cannon by the green Starshade Bro off-screen. Goomba was about to rush for Bowser, but decided to "exercise" before doing anything else.
Unexpected battle[]

Goomba spooked the Beanie referring it as "freaky monstrosity", offending the Beanie. With Goomba realizing it can talk, the Beanie was irritated for its "ignorance". Goomba realized that it "came out wrong", and decided to complement it by referring it as a "great" bean rather than a "weird bean". The Beanie assumed Goomba was joking and declared a battle. Goomba reminded himself that he is used to fighting Mario, so he will "keep bashing" his opponents.
Recruiting the crew[]

Goomba found the other Goombas discussing who will be the captain; Goomba was joyful and ran to the group. Goomba settled the conversation saying that they are "bound by honor". Goomba was eager to venture his minions, even the Goomba mentioned about him being "chummy so quickly" is not "very Minion-y". Other Goombas decided to include him in the squad with the "super special position".

Goomba and his minions agreed to find more of their minions to rebuild their squad. However, Goomba was puzzled the flag on his head, disappointingly surprised the minions. One of the Goombas told him that he is the captain; this gave him the name Captain Goomba. Captain Goomba began to lead the troop.
Captain Goomba and the three Goombas discussed their strategy to take down the opposing squad's captain. After defeating the Beanies, the Goomba squad recruited two Goombas.
Recruiting Hammer Bros.[]
Captain Goomba found two Hammer Bros. with Hammerhead Bros.. Captain Goomba informed the Hammer Bros. that "Bowser is in big trouble". The Hammerhead Bros. and Hammer Bros. misunderstood Captain Goomba's statement; the Hammer Bros. declared a battle. The Goombas learned about the three units: Ranged, Flying and Melee. Goombas understood that Melee troopers (Goomba) can outclass Ranged troopers (Hammer Bro).
After the Goombas defeated the Hammer Bros., Hammer Bros. joined Captain Goomba's crew. Hammerhead Bros. gave advice to Captain Goomba before the crew left.
Recruiting Paragoombas[]
Captain Goomba attempted to recruit the Paragoombas. However, the Paragoombas assumed it to be an enemy. After defeating the Paragoombas, the Paragoombas were free from brainwash. Captain Goomba questioned them. The Paragoombas explained their story: they attempted to protect Bowser from Fawful. Fawful brainwashed them into thinking that Fawful is their master. The Paragoombas confirmed that Fawful brainwashed Bowser. Furious Captain Goomba ran to Fawful.
Meeting Ludwig and Lemmy[]

Captain Goomba's crew defeated their enemies and recruited the Bob-ombs. Captain Goomba met Ludwig von Koopa and Lemmy Koopa. Captain Goomba informed the Koopalings that "Bowser went flying towards the mountain" and "a weird guy with odd verbiage might spray" them. Confused, they ignored him and continued their own path. Captain Goomba considered if he rescued Bowser by himself, "the Koopalings might change their minds about [him]".
Meeting Private Goomp and Fawful[]

Captain Goomba meets Private Goomp, Fawful and Bowser.
Captain Goomba defeated Private Goomp's army. Private Goomp was freed from brainwash; Captain Goomba recognised Private Goomp (one of the Gooombas trapped in the barrel at the Koopa cruiser). Before Captain Goomba could take action for Bowser, Fawful launched the two Goombas.
Hoohoo Village[]
Captain Goomba fell onto Hoohoo Village and woke up. Captain Goomba asked Hoohooligan "[the] way to the castle", the Hoohooligan told it that they are at the base of the mountain. Captain Goomba jumps off the mountain and injured itself.
Heading to the Beanbean Kingdom[]

Captain Goomba lead his troop towards the Beanbean Kingdom. Captain Goomba recruited Shy Guys and met Shy Guy. It plots to unbrainwash Bowser's minions. Shy Guy and Captain Goomba joined forces; Shy Guy gained the title, Captain Shy Guy. Lakitu carried Goomba and Shy Guy and dropped them to their destination near Beanbean Kingdom. Lakitu promised to help Captain Goomba scout for the minions. Captain Goomba and Captain Shy Guy witness Larry take Lakitu. After Goomba fought Larry's army, Captain Goomba and Captain Shy Guy rescued Lakitu and Larry left. Captain Goomba learnt Fawful brainwashed the Koopalings. Captain Goomba considered that they should be stronger than the Koopalings before freeing them from brainwash.
Captain Goomba saw Fawful heading to the Beanbean Castle Town. Captain Goomba and Captain Shy Guy proceeded to head to the town, but a Lakitu grabbed them and placed them further from the town telling them that they will not stand a chance even with his army. Lakitu tells them about the minions scattered across the Beanbean Kingdom after the Koopa Cruiser's crash. Lakitu leaves the decision to Goomba to find all the minions and bring him to his crew while Lakitu will scout others who are looking for him.
Brainwashed Larry Koopa[]
Before Lakitu, Captain Goomba and Captain Shy Guy proceed, Larry Koopa interferes and took Lakitu to form Fawful's army. After their army defeated Larry's army, Larry retreats. Lakitu confirms to Goomba that he sure that the Koopalings are brainwashed. While Lakitu is not concerned about the kingdom being destroyed, he worries about the Koopalings attack across the kingdom.
