Super Mario Mario Kart
Not to be confused with Sun, an enemy in Wario Land 3.

The Angry Sun is living sun enemy which appears in some Mario games. It first appears in Super Mario Bros. 3.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Angry Sun SMB3 NES sprite

Here, the Angry Sun at first appears in World 2-Quicksand. It shoots out flaming rays to try and attack Mario or Luigi, and about halfway through the level, they Angry Sun swoops downward in a U-shaped formation to try and attack them. The Angry Sun can be defeated from either a Koopa Shell, touching it as Invincible Mario, or by throwing a hammer at it as Hammer Mario.

The Angry Sun returns in the level World 8-2, where instead of starting out in the sky, Angry Sun jumps out from behind a hill partway through the level and immediately begins trying to swoop into Mario or Luigi.

Super Mario Maker 2[]

The Angry Sun returns as an enemy. In the New Super Mario Bros. U style, the Angry Sun has a Mesoamerican appearance and doesn't show its signature scowl. In addition, the New Super Mario Bros. U-style Angry Sun is covered in a fiery aura and a new sound effect plays whenever it begins to swoop towards Mario.

In nighttime settings, the Angry Sun is instead replaced by a Moon. Unlike Angry Sun, the Moon does not defeat Mario, although it defeats any on-screen enemy that it swoops into.

In Mario Kart series[]

Mario Kart DS[]

The Angry Sun appears in the course Desert Hills, where it is a lot larger in size than in Super Mario Bros. 3. Angry Sun remains in the sky throughout and shoots down fireballs and Fire Snakes, both of which briefly spin out a racer if they drive into it.

Mario Kart Wii[]

The Angry Sun only appears in DS Desert Hills, which carried over from Mario Kart DS. It functioned like its appearance in its previous game.

Mario Kart 7[]

While Angry Sun doesn't directly appear, his Super Mario All-Stars sprite makes a cameo on carpets, jars, and such in the Mushroom Cup course, Shy Guy Bazaar.
