The Fiery Dino Piranha is the second and empowered form of Dino Piranha. He first appears in Super Mario Galaxy, in which he is fought during the third mission of Melty Molten Galaxy, is the fourth/final boss of the Engine Room, as well as the twenty-second(twenty-third if counting the Mandibug Stack)/penultimate boss overall. The Fiery Dino Piranha makes a reappearance in Super Mario Galaxy 2 as the fifth and final boss of the Boss Blitz Galaxy.

Appearance[]

As the Fiery Dino Piranha, the Dino Piranha has had his pallette changed to have a more "fiery" look. The Fiery Dino Piranha's head is black with red spots which resembles his egg, and his lips are white. His petals vastly resemble a palm tree.

Battle[]

Much like Dino Piranha previously, the Fiery Dino Piranha is at first encased in his egg when Mario encounters him. The Fiery Dino Piranha at first runs around blindly until Mario uses his Star Spin on the boss's tail to tear open the egg on the Fiery Dino Piranha's head. At this, the boss will attack Mario.

The tail of the Fiery Dino Piranha is incinerated, and leaves a trail of flames behind it. In addition to this, the boss is able to spew out fireballs from his mouth and can run a lot faster than the standard Dino Piranha. Mario's only method of catching up with the boss is to Long Jump to him, though this can be difficult as Fiery Dino Piranha is constantly burning.

In Super Mario Galaxy, the battle begins when Mario makes his way to the planet the Fiery Dino Piranha makes his lair on. After awakening the boss, the player should defeat him as with the standard one, but the only difference is that the Fiery Dino Piranha will often ignite his elastic tail for a short time until it returns to its normal state, at which point Mario can attack it. The boss will also leave fire trails after the second hit and move faster than he originally did as Dino Piranha. Additionally, after being hit the second time (third time counting the strike that tore his eggshell off), the Fiery Dino Piranha will spew out fire balls from his mouth.

Trivia[]

  • The Fiery Dino Piranha fight shares his battle theme with the Dino Piranha and Tarantox boss fights.
  • The Fiery Dino Piranha is very similar to the second fight agents King Kaliente, in that:
    • They both are stronger versions of their normal counter-parts that is fought in Good Egg Galaxy.
    • They both are the main boss of a world themed on fire (King Kaliente: Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor Fiery Dino Piranha: Melty Molten Galaxy).
    • They both can launch out fireballs.
    • They both serve as the final bosses of their role (King Kaliente: Guarding of the last Grand Star, Fiery Dino Piranha: Is the last Normal Boss Fight of the game).
  • Fittingly enough, Dino Piranha is the first boss in Super Mario Galaxy (unless the reactor in the Gateway Galaxy is considered as one), while Fiery Dino Piranha is the penultimate boss (The final boss is Bowser from Bowser's Galaxy Reactor) of Super Mario Galaxy, creating the feeling of having gone full circle once both have been defeated.
  • Fiery Dino Piranha is very similar to Fire Gobblegut, as both bosses are fiery versions of their original bosses: (Dino Piranha and Gobblegut), respectively.
  • The official Prima guide for Super Mario Galaxy claims that Fiery Dino Piranha and Dino Piranha are related.
  • Oddly enough, Fiery Dino Piranha is fought more in Super Mario Galaxy 2 than in the original Super Mario Galaxy. It is the only boss that returns in the sequel to do this, because the other four bosses in the Boss Blitz Galaxy are fought multiple times in the first game. (The Dino Piranha has to be fought with Speedy Comet conditions in the same galaxy, Major Burrows and the Bouldergeist have to be fought the second time with Daredevil Comet missions, and Bowser Jr. summons King Kaliente to his Lava Reactor.
  • Dino Piranha is able to spit fireballs from his mouth in his default form in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
