Egg Throw consistently involves a Yoshi throwing a Yoshi Egg, but the execution of the move differs between series.
In the Yoshi platforming titles, the player must hold or press the aiming button for an X-shaped cursor to display. This cursor indicates which direction the Yoshi Egg will launch, once the player releases the aiming button. Upon being thrown, a Yoshi Egg continues in the direction it was thrown in until hitting a wall, ceiling, or the ground, upon which it bounces. When the Yoshi Egg hits an enemy or bounces too many times, it breaks and disappears. At first, a Yoshi Egg used in Egg Throw has green spots, but as it bounces multiple times, the egg changes to yellow then to red, after which it breaks. A majority of Yoshi bosses can be attacked using Egg Throw, and become defeated after a number of hits.
The first level, Make Eggs, Throw Eggs, is named for the Egg Throw ability. The second Message Block in the level gives instructions on how to have a Yoshi use Egg Throw.

Egg Throw is one of Yoshi's moves and the only Super Mario series installment in which he can use the move.
Unlike the Yoshi platformers, Egg Throw now automatically hits the nearest enemy, so it no longer has to be aimed. If there are no nearby enemies, the Yoshi Egg is thrown forward. Egg Throw can chain to a few enemies, and doing so causes each enemy to lose two Coins instead of one. The move is optional, but can sometimes be beneficial, such as in Behind Chain-Chomp's Gate, in which using Egg Throw on a Chain Chomp stuns it for a few seconds.
Egg Throw is an attack used by Sunnycide during its boss fight, and this is the first time Egg Throw is used by a character other than the Yoshis. Sunnycide's Egg Throw is different because it involves throwing Yoob eggs containing trapped Yoshis at all four of the Mario brothers.
