Super Mario
Not to be confused with Spin Drill, an item in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Drill Spin is a move which appears in some Super Mario series games, most notably the New Super Mario Bros. sub-series. It first appears in New Super Mario Bros..

Description[]

In games featuring the Drill Spin, Mario or another playable character can perform a Drill Spin while twirling around in midair as the player holds Down on the D-Pad. As the name suggests, Drill Spin involves them twirling down rapidly in the manner of a drill, allowing them to reach the ground more quickly or even to break Brick Blocks by twirling on top of them.

In New Super Mario Bros., twirling in midair occurs whenever Mario or Luigi jumps off a Spin Block, during which they can then use their Drill Spin maneuver. The Drill Spin returns in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where instead of being usable by jumping off a Spin Block, a character in their Propeller form can do a Drill Spin after charging up into the air to drill their way back down. In New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and their remake New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, the Drill Spin retains its role from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
