WarioWare

Donkey Kong Country Returns is one of the microgames in 9-Volt's Nintendo Classics stage of WarioWare: Get It Together! It is based on the Wii game of the same name.

Layout[]

Each difficulty level takes place in a single-screen area of a certain level from the original Donkey Kong Country Returns: level 1 takes place in Jungle Hijinxs, near the Mugly statues; level 2 takes place in Muncher Marathon; and level 3 takes place at the end of the Golden Temple. The background music played during the microgame matches the theme of the level in the original Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Gameplay[]

The player's character has to defeat all enemies on-screen. After clearing the microgame, either Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong appears, depending on which enemy layout is used, or both of them in two-player mode. If the player's character does not defeat both enemies within the time limit, they lose the microgame, but touching an enemy does not cause them to lose. In Level 3, it is possible to fall off the stage, also results in a loss.

Orbulon is listed as the most suitable because of his free movement and the Oinker's wide tractor beam, allowing Orbulon to defeat all enemies quickly. Pyoro is listed as the least suitable because his tongue has a diagonal trajectory; this is especially evident in Level 3, where Pyoro may fall off the platform as he tries to reach the enemies with his tongue.

Donkey Kong Country Returns has only one mission associated with it, titled Hop, Step, Jump. It requires the player to play as Young Cricket, who must complete Level 3 by jumping on all of the Tiki Buzzes in succession without touching the ground.

Difficulty levels[]

Each difficulty level features different enemies that can appear in two different layouts.

  • Level 1: The player's character has to defeat either one Tiki Goon or one Tiki Buzz flying back and forth.
  • Level 2: The player's character has to defeat either a Frogoon and a purple Skittler or a Skittler and a Tiki Goon. Both combinations feature one enemy on each side of the screen.
  • Level 3: The player's character has to defeat three Tiki Buzzes, which fly either back and forth or up and down.

In two-player mode, more enemies appear in each difficulty level: three in Level 1 and 2 and five Tiki Buzzes in Level 3. Frogoons and Skittlers can also possibly appear in Level 1. If the microgame is won, whoever defeated more enemies receives an effort point, or a star in Rising Star mode.
