"Do You Believe In Magic?" is the nineteenth live-action segment of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the animated episode "Pirates of Koopa."
Plot[]
Luigi is busy with multiple tasks such as shaving and making spaghetti sauce when the basement starts to shake and a pounding sound fills the area. Luigi scolds Mario for jumping rope while wearing his boots but he realizes Mario isn’t at home. He opens the medicine cabinet and finds Magic Johnson inside. Magic claims that he needs Luigi to fix his old high school trophy that he accidentally broke. Luigi agrees and sets it down on a large pile of twine so he can find a manual on fixing trophies. While Luigi is looking for the manual, Mario returns and finds the twine on the table. Believing it to be an intolerable mess, Mario takes the twine (trophy and all) and tosses it into the furnace.
Mario and Luigi retrieve the trophy, which is now a lump of metal, and attempt to fix it. Just then, the basement shakes announcing Magic's return. Mario attempts to stall Magic so that Luigi can fix the trophy. Magic is impatient and gives them only five minutes to give him his trophy back. Luigi manages to make a trophy from the metal but Magic knows it's not his as he gave Luigi his bowling trophy.
Luigi confesses to his mistake but Magic doesn't believe them. Luckily, it turns out that Magic's trophy somehow ended up in the spaghetti sauce, which not only fixes it, but makes it shine. Magic is pleased with the results and Luigi wants to get back to shaving. Unfortunately, his favorite shaving cream cup is now a trophy.
Trivia/Goofs[]
- Magic is one of the few guest stars to appear in the medicine cabinet.
- Although Mario is shown to care about neatness in "Do You Believe In Magic?," this is later contradicted in the episode "A Basement Divided."
