A Defensive Power Shot is a type of Power Shot used by tennis players in both Mario Power Tennis and Mario Tennis: Power Tour. A Defensive Power Shot is the opposite of an Offensive Power Shot, which it can block so that the receiver has a better chance of passing the tennis ball back. Like Offensive Power Shots, activating a Defensive Power Shot causes the tennis ball to pause in midair before the user hits it.
Many Defensive Power Shots have the word "return" in their name or "save" for the human tennis players introduced in Mario Tennis: Power Tour.
