The Dash Mushroom is an item from the Mario Kart series bearing the same appearance as Mushrooms and generally Super Mushrooms. Like other items, Dash Mushrooms are obtained from Item Boxes, and grant a burst of speed to its user upon being used. In several Mario Kart games, Dash Mushrooms can also be acquired in a set of three, specifically named Triple Mushrooms. The Mushroom Cup's logo is also a Dash Mushroom.
Description[]
Using a Dash Mushroom gives the racer a powerful boost of speed to make them drive incredibly fast for a limited time (enough for them to skip off-road surfaces and making shortcuts at certain tracks). As of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, a racer drops their Dash Mushroom on the road if they are hit by an item. Dash Mushrooms on the road are used automatically by whoever drives into them.
A variation of the normal Mushroom is the Golden Mushroom, which first appeared in Mario Kart 64. It is far more powerful than the normal Mushroom, and can be used multiple times until it wears off.
An alternative to the Mushroom is the Mini-Turbo, which can be achieved by drifting and performing a special technique that follows the Power Slide. The technique varies between the games, ranging from sliding for a continuous time to turning left and right alternately to holding the drift for a longer time. Mini-Turbos, however, gives a much shorter boost, and cannot be used to quickly skip off-road surfaces.
