Luigi's Mansion

The Dark-Light Device (also simply known as Dark-Light or Dark Light) is an item in the Luigi's Mansion series. It first appears in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Description[]

The Dark-Light Device is a flashlight accessory that emits a rainbow-colored light in the direction that Luigi is pointing it. To this effect, the Dark-Light Device reveals objects hidden in a manner similar to an ultraviolet lamp. When the invisible object is shone on for long enough, a number of Spirit Balls are revealed, causing the object to become visible. The Spirit Balls need to be vacuumed up before they make the object become invisible again, causing the effects of the Dark-Light Device to wear off.

The Dark-Light Device also helps in capturing Boos, find tracks leading to the Polterpup, and helps in the fight against certain ghosts. It can also reveal coins and gems, as well as free Toad Assistants trapped in paintings.

The Dark-Light Device being used in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

The Dark-Light Device is obtained by Luigi in the Lab of Gloomy Manor during the fourth mission, A-4: Visual Tracks.

The Dark-Light Device can be used on Sneakers to reveal them before they sneak behind Luigi to scare him. Greenies start to taunt Luigi when the Dark-Light Device is used on them. The Dark-Light Device is required to free Mario from his painting.

The Dark-Light Device can be used by holding the "Y Button" button. However, it has an energy gauge that is a rainbow-colored meter in the top right corner, so if the Dark-Light Device is used for too long, it overheats. The gauge can be upgraded by Professor E. Gadd by collecting treasure and leveling up.

Luigi's Mansion 3[]

The Dark-Light Device is now an add-on to the Poltergust G-00. It functions identically as before, but is now used with the X Button button. The Dark-Light Device no longer has a burn-out meter, so Luigi (and Gooigi) can use it for as long as desired. The Dark-Light Device can also reveal purple Spirit Balls that are possessing furniture once they are stunned.
