The Czar Dragon is a boss who appears in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
Czar Dragon is a dragon composed of Pyrospheres. In the field, he lacks legs, but his Nintendo Switch redesign gives him legs. His mouth has white teeth, and his head has horns on top.
As Zombone, the Czar Dragon looks like his normal self, but with a brown body and skeletal wings and claws and a skeletal head.
In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[]
The Czar Dragon is fought in Barrel Volcano, being one of the obstacles on the path to the sixth Star Piece.
Battle[]
In battle, the Czar Dragon attacks with many fire-related moves such as Flame Wall. Despite being made of fire, he is capable of using the deadly Water Blast move. Upon defeat, the dragon falls into the lava pool on his side of the battlefield, only to reemerge in his skeletal form, Zombone.
Strategy[]
The Czar Dragon is weak to ice-related moves so Mallow's Snowy will come in handy in this fight. Mario should also avoid using his fire techniques and stick to Jump techniques while Princess Toadstool heals.

Behind the Scenes[]
Etymology[]
The Czar Dragon is named after the Russian title meaning "Emperor," derived from the title Caesar used during the Roman Empire, which was originally a Roman cognomen of the gens Julia.
Nomenclature[]
In the Japanese dub, the Czar dragon is called "Kaizā Doragon" (written カイザードラゴン) a Japanese transliteration of "Kaiser Dragon," with Kaiser coming from the German word for "Emperor," from the Latin title Caesar. His Chinese name, Kǎisǎ Lóng (written 凱撒龍), has a Chinese transliteration of German kaiser (Kǎisǎ; written 凱撒) followed by the Chinese word for "dragon" (Lóng; written 龍). Korean gives him a name similarly transliterated from "Kaiser Dragon," resulting in Kaijeo Deuraegon (written 카이저드래곤). Dutch and German just translate his name as "Kaiser Dragon" (Keizerdraak and Kaiserdrache, respectively). In Spanish and Italian, his name is "Czar Dragon." (Dragón Zar and Zar Dragone, respectively). In French, he is called Dragon le Premier ("Dragon the First"; shortened to Dragon 1er in-game).
Trivia[]
- The Czar Dragon looks very similar to Blarggs from Super Mario World.
