Crystal Tap 64 DS

Mario next to a Crystal Tap in Super Mario 64 DS

Crystal Taps are a feature found in Wet-Dry World of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. They basically control the water levels of the entire city. When a Crystal Tap is tagged, the water-level will either drain or rise to the level of that Crystal Tap. This method is usually required to obtain various Power Stars in Wet-Dry World and for reaching the hidden tunnel to Downtown easier. Activating the Crystal Taps is also handy for replenishing any lost health. The level the water starts at can also be controlled by how high you jumped into the painting. If done with a high jump, the water level will be a notch higher than even the highest Crystal Tap.

Crystal Taps can also be found in the Downtown section of Wet-Dry World. There is one at the top of the town and another below the tunnel to the town's entrance. Draining the water is required for obtaining the Red Coins down here. After tagging the Crystal Tap, it is impossible to return to the city section of Wet-Dry World.

Locations[]

These are the locations of each Crystal Tap, sorted from lowest to highest.

  • Near the corner closest to the Mesh Cages.
  • On a stone platform below the bridge.
  • Atop a stone staircase.
  • On a large stone platform (accessible by the wooden bridge)
  • On a slope at the highest point of the city.
