The Crystal Ball is an object featured in some Mario games. It is often used by psychics and fortune-tellers to foresee one's future. The Crystal Ball first appears in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, and was inducted into the Mario franchise with its overseas conversion Super Mario Bros. 2.

In Super Mario Bros. 2[]

A Crystal Ball is usually guarded by a Birdo, who releases it upon being defeated. Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, or Toad can pick up the Crystal Ball to open the Mask Gate's mouth, marking the end of a level.

In the Paper Mario series[]

In Paper Mario, the Crystal Ball is only needed to help complete one of Koopa Koot's favors. Mario needs to obtain an autograph from Merluvlee of Shooting Star Summit but she needs her Crystal Ball back from her sister Merlee who lives in Dry Dry Outpost. After Mario retrieves the Crystal Ball, he can give it to Merluvlee to get her autograph which then must be brought to Koopa Koot to receive three Star Pieces.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Crystal Ball only appears as an unobtainable object under the ownership of Merlon. It can later be upgraded with the Ultra Stone.
