Super Mario

Crazed Crates are an object which first appear in Super Mario 64.

Description[]

A Crazed Crate is type of block that uses a similar design to a regular one. A Crazed Crate has a dizzy face depicted on each side, and the face shows a pair of swirled eyes as well as a frown. In Super Mario 64 DS, a white background was added to where the swirling eyes are, giving off the appearance of sclarae.

In Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[]

A Crazed Crate is first found in Big Boo's Haunt, followed by one in Lethal Lava Land, two in Shifting Sand Land, and one in Tall, Tall Mountain. If Mario (or Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario in Super Mario 64 DS) he grabs and holds on to a Crazed Crate as it bounces around three times in whichever direction he is facing. With each bounce, the Crazed Crate moves slightly higher than in the previous bounce. Crazed Crates can also bounce off walls, but this is not added as one of the three bounces. After the last jump, when the Crazed Crate lands onto the ground, it explodes, revealing five coins.

In Mario Party series[]

Mario Party[]

Here, they are named Whomp Blocks, which appear in the minigame Box Mountain Mayhem. The objective for each character is to collect Coins hidden within the Blocks while avoiding the Whomp Blocks hidden amongst them. If a Whomp Block is hit, it reveals its face and bounces back whoever hit it.

Mario Party 2[]

Some Crazed Crates make a cameo as decorations in the board Bowser Land.
