- Not to be confused with Sidesteppers, the most recurring crab species in Mario media, sometimes being named Crabs themselves.
Crabs are real-world crustaceans which typically reside in beaches. Sidesteppers are the most common species of crabs within the Mario franchise. However, regular representations of crabs first appear in Mario Kart 64.
In Mario Kart 64[]
Crabs make an appearance in Koopa Troopa Beach, where they serve as an obstacle, and if a racer drives into a Crab, they spin out. In the course's reappearances, let alone the Mario Kart series in general, Crabs are replaced by Sidesteppers, which have the same behavior as them.
