The Cosmic Cove Galaxy is a galaxy in the game Super Mario Galaxy 2. The galaxy is home to several Penguins. It has its Starting Planet as the icon, and Mario can access it with at least 10 Power Stars in his possession, including one from either the Hightail Falls Galaxy or the Boulder Bowl Galaxy. The galaxy has a water theme to it. In some stages, the water can be turned to ice at the press of a button.

Missions[]

Twin Falls Hideaway[]

In this mission, you have to make it through the cove and hit a button to turn the place into ice. Then you have to climb up to waterfalls to get to the Star.

Exploring the Cosmic Cavern[]

In this mission, you have to swim through a cavern and a water tunnel in order to collect the key to free a Luma trapped in a cage. The Luma then transforms into a Launch Star that sends you to a planet separated down the middle by a rock wall. You must use the Spin Drill at the center of your side to drill to the other side and kill the Mechakoopa who has the key to unlock a cage with a patch of soft dirt in it that has water leaking from it. Drilling through the dirt will cause water to rise up through the soil and stop at a platform with the Star. You must swim to the platform and grab the Star.

Catch that Star Bunny[]

In the Twin Falls Hideaway mission, you must feed a Coin Luma 15 coins. It will then transform into a Launch Star that sends you to a planet thinly covered in water with many holes and a black hole in the middle. You will encounter a star bunny that challenges you to catch it. You must ground-pound a nearby button that turns the water to ice. Then skate after the bunny and when you catch it with your faster speed, it will give you the Star.

Green Star 1[]

Players should do the mission Twin Falls Hideaway. After players freeze the water and wall jump the Twin Falls, they should skip breaking the crystal for freeing the Power Star. Instead, they should jump off the edge of the cliff where the Power Star is to get the level's first Green Star.

Green Star 2[]

Players should do the mission Exploring the Cosmic Cavern. When players get to the Aquarium Planet B, they should look for a platform with a Goomba on it. The Green Star is to the right of the platform and needs careful precision and aim if players need to obtain it.

Green Star 3[]

Players should do the mission Exploring the Cosmic Cavern. Players should make their way back to the Aquarium Planet B. Player should swim to the top where the key is. After getting the key, players should go to the platform on the right and perform a Long Jump to the Green Star off to the left.

Planets[]

Starting Planet (Cove Planet)[]

This is the main planet of the galaxy. Mario starts on beach that dips into the water at the southern area. The planet's northern area is a giant cove, hence the galaxy's name, and there is a switch that, when subjected to a Ground Pound, freezes the water. A Hungry Luma can be found in this cove, requesting to be fed 15 Coins; his Launch Star leads to the Skate Hole Planet. In the first mission, Mario can swim in the water, which he must do so to get to the Cosmic Cove, where he must activate a switch to freeze the water and perform Wall Jumps to get to the Twin Falls Planets. In the second mission, the water is frozen, meaning Mario can skate on it, and a cage appears near his landing spot, containing a Luma that must be freed by grabbing a key at the end of the Water Maze Planet; this leads to the Drill Spring Water Planet. The giant cove on the northern half has a Comet Medal inside one of the giant shells underwater; this Comet Medal is unobtainable if the switch at the top of the tower froze the water.

Twin Falls Planets[]

These planets are twin islands that hover high above the Starting Planet's massive cove. Their main feature is their waterfalls, which pour downwards into the cove.

  • Gravity: Downward (towards Starting Planet)

Aquarium Planets (Cosmic Cavern Planet and Water Maze Planet)[]

These planets are visited during the second mission. The first is an underwater sidescroller section with Penguins, Brick Blocks, and cave-dwelling Gringills, and a Warp Pipe leads to the second planet, which is a body of water hovering in space forming a maze surrounded by small platforms and Black Holes. Near the end is a section with some red-framed tubes with water bubbles and a group of Star Bits forming a star formation in the background. The end has a Key that frees the caged Luma at the beach on the Starting Planet.

Drill Water Spring Planet[]

This planet manifests as a spherical stone planet with a large wall splitting it in half. The Launch Star in the second mission sends Mario onto the south half, which contains Fizzlits and a Spin Drill that Mario needs to become Drill Mario and go to the north half via the dirt holes. The north half has Mechakoopas that breathe fire who guard a Key that must be grabbed to free up a dirt patch that, when Mario uses his drill on it, floods the planet with water, leading to Mario's opportunity to get the Power Star.

Skate Hole Planet[]

This planet is summoned when Mario feeds the Hungry Luma 15 Coins. Mario has to catch a Star Bunny here. There is also a blue Ground-Pound Switch that freezes the water for some time. The surface is riddled with holes, however; if Mario falls in one, he will be devoured by a Black Hole at the centre.

Enemies Encountered[]

Trivia[]

  • On the second mission, if the player looks closely in the starting area, they will find Black Holes. That's where the Water Maze Planet is. If the player has a flight hack and heads in that direction, they will be surprised to find the Cosmic Cavern is located next to the Water Maze Planet.
  • This is the only galaxy where the Coach and Penguru are both in.
  • In Mario Kart 7, the Special Cup racing course Rosalina's Ice World appears to resemble this galaxy.
  • This is surprisingly the only galaxy in World 2 with two main missions.
  • This is the only galaxy in the game that includes a Star Bunny catching mission.
