A Cosmic Comet is a type of Prankster Comet in Super Mario Galaxy. Mario and Luigi must race against their cosmic counterparts. At the end of the race, there is a Power Star. If the Cosmic version of Mario or Luigi gets to the Power Star first, the player loses a life, and has the option to start again, or return to the Comet Observatory. The Cosmic Comet doesn't reappear in the sequel but a similar one called the Clone Comet appears. This comet basically spawns multiple Cosmic Clones.
Cosmic Comet share their theme with the Fast Foe Comet.

- Honeyhive Galaxy (Honeyhive Cosmic Mario Race; Mario must race Cosmic Mario through the Starting Planet.)
- Freezeflame Galaxy (Frosty Cosmic Mario Race; Mario must race Cosmic Mario to the end of the Ice And Lava Platforms Area, though the lava tiles are now frozen solid and can be Skated upon. This is the only Cosmic Mario Race whose Gravity changes.)
- Gold Leaf Galaxy (Cosmic Mario Forest Race; Mario must race Cosmic Mario through the forest to reach the Power Star.)
- Sea Slide Galaxy (Underwater Cosmic Mario Race; Mario must race Cosmic Mario through the Sea Slide and to the light house area to get the Power Star.)
