Paper Mario

Jean-Pierre Colored Pencils The 12th, also called the Colored Pencils or the Missile Maestro, is a member of the Legion of Stationery who guards the end of the red-colored streamer. It is a boss in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

Physical Apperence[]

The Colored Pencils resembles a red colored pencils case. It has King Olly's insignia on its back. Twelve colored pencils lay in his mouth that he’s calls his "Art-Senal".

Biography[]

The Colored Pencils are a member of the Legion of Stationery. When King Olly took over royal control by abducting the Princess Peach's Castle with the five streamers, Jean-Pierre Colored Pencils The 12th was tasked to take care after the red streamer at the Overlook Tower.

When Paper Mario and Olivia enters the tower elevator, Colored Pencils launches its pencils which attack, piercing through the elevator walls. Mario hammers the pencils out, dropping the elevator to the ground.

Mario eventually reaches the red streamer, but before he can destroy it, he needs to face the Colored Pencils first.

Upon defeat, he groans that Mario was better in a sidescroller, before its body bursts.

Whenever Colored Pencils talks, the text changes color for each letter.

Abilities[]

Primary Target: Primary Target consists of multiple targets appearing on the battle slots. If Mario runs underneath one of the targets then he will be hit by a pencil missile. Each missile deal 3 damage, and is fired regardless once Mario reaches his end destination.

Pencil Rain: The Colored Pencils releases the rest of its color pencils at Mario, excluding the ones that he fired during Primary Target. Each pencil deals 3 damage but can be blocked for 2.

Reload: After Pencil Rain, the Colored Pencils have no pencils left. Reload causes it to regain a full arsenal of 12 pencils for the next round.

Snap Shot: After Mario uses the 1,000-Fold Arms to close the Colored Pencils lid, the Colored Pencils will attack using Snap Shot, which will hit if Mario is within the inner two rings.

Rainbow Roll: During this attack the Colored Pencils will fire all 12 pencils in 4 rounds of 3 pencils. Each pencil does 4 damage if not blocked, 3 if it is, for a grand total of 48 HP. Each set pushes Mario back one ring. He will stay at the last ring until the last set pushes him off the arena. If Mario jumps on the Colored Pencils with boots then it will lose 4 pencils causing it to have 4 rounds of 2 pencils. The Colored Pencils' lid can not be closed during Rainbow Roll.

Worst Case: If Mario fails to defeat the Colored Pencils using the 1,000-Fold Arms, then the Colored Pencils will use Worst Case. This move is a pun because the Colored Pencils is a broken pencil case, and it is using Worst Case as a last resort. The attack does 2 damage, 1 if blocked.

Combat[]

Phase 1[]

The board starts with an On switch and Magic Circles. During the first phase, Jean-Pierre launches 4-6 pencils into the sky to protect itself as Mario approaches him. Mario has to get behind so he can use his 1,000-Fold Arms technique, or hammer to close the boss's lid, causing Jean-Pierre to burn the inside of its mouth (which damages it) with its own pencils. If Mario does not use the 1,000-Fold Arms or hammer from the back, then the Colored Pencils will close its lid ending the attack. During this phase all boot attacks from the back miss, and all regular boot attacks from the front deal 3 damage to Mario. However, Iron Boot attacks do hit the Colored Pencils, but only knock out one pencil, and do not deal damage to the Colored Pencils. After Mario closes its mouth, the play moves to Phase 1.5. If more than 50% of the bosses HP is damaged, then the play will move to Phase 2.

Phase 1.5[]

After closing its mouth using the 1,000-Fold Arms, or a hammer, the Colored Pencils will be stunned for 1 turn. During this time, if Mario uses the 1,000 Fold Arms, or a hammer from the back, then the lid will close again. However, with no missiles in its mouth, the Colored Pencils will use Snap Shot to attack Mario. After this. the play return to Phase 1. After the boss loses half of its HP the play moves to Phase 2.

Phase 2[]

After it loses half its health, the Colored Pencils enters the second phase and uses the Rainbow Roll. The Colored Pencils lid can not be closed during Phase 2, however, each Jump you do will remove a pencil for each hit done. Hammering will still do damage, although it will not deplete any pencils. During this phase, Mario has to grab the pencils and jam them into the case using a Magic Circle from in front of the Colored Pencils. If Mario does not defeat the Colored Pencils when he uses the Magic Circle, they will enter Phase 3 - otherwise, Colored Pencils will simply be defeated.

Phase 3[]

After Mario uses the Magic Circle in Phase 2, but fails to defeat the Colored Pencils, Phase 3 begins. During this phase, Colored Pencils is shown with a damaged case, and he will only use Worst Case. During this phase, there are Magic Circles on the field, but there are no On panels.

After its defeat, the Colored Pencils drops a Magic Circle that can be used to break the seal of the Red Streamer. Also, a Collectible Treasure of the Colored Pencils can be collected in Toad Town.

In game hints[]

Phase 1: "Avoid the targeted panels, sneak behind the case, then whack the lid with your hammer!"

Phase 1.5: "When it runs out of missiles, that's your chance! Attack inside the case, but don't get TOO close!"

Phase 2: "Be bold! Just grab those pencils head-on with the 1,000-Fold Arms. If it attacks, stay calm and guard!"

Phase 3: "You're almost done! Attack it to finish it off!"
