SMW - Coin Heaven

A Coin Heaven in Super Mario World

Coin Heavens are recurring locations in the Super Mario series.

Description[]

Coin Heavens are special bonus areas located in the skies of several courses, and are usually accessed via hidden blocks or secret paths. These areas usually feature coins and sometimes extra power-up items that the player can collect. After players fully navigate through a Coin Heaven, they return to the main level.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Bros.[]

Coin Heaven is accessed via a block holding a vine, which will pop up and rise into the sky, allowing the player to climb up into the area. There is a flat moving cloud platform that will ride the player across the area, allowing him to jump up and gather the coins before reaching the end.

In the challenge mode of the Super Mario Bros. Deluxe release, the player will earn a "Perfect Bonus" (10,000pts) upon collecting all coins in a Coin Heaven.

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Coin Heavens return, this time with several differences as far as appearances and accessibility. It is accessed by activating  a Magic Note Block, which has the distinction of a reddish color, as opposed to regular music note boxes. When you bounce on it, it will send the player to the Coin Heaven. The game will automatically scroll the screen through the area until reaching the end where there's a pipe that will take the player back to the main level.

In some Coin Heavens, if the player has the Super Leaf, Tanooki Suit, or better yet, the P-Wing, they can fly up and activate a hidden block that holds a 1-up Mushroom.

Also, the Coin Heavens in this game share the same music as the Sky Portion of World 5 - Sky Land, and World 9 - Warp Zone.

Super Mario World[]

Coin Heavens can only be accessed while riding Yoshi with the help of the Yoshi's Wings found in specific blocks. Coins Heavens are found in only 3 levels; Cheese Bridge Area, Valley of Bowser 2 and Way Cool. During those bonus stages, the stage scrolls, and there are coins and extra Dragon Coins to collect, and at the end of the level an arrow made of coins that signal the end of the bonus stage.

The bonus stages on Valley of Bowser 2 and Way Cool are exactly the same, while the one found in Cheese Bridge Area is different and features Fuzzy enemies.

Note: Whenever the player falls in the pit during the Bonus Stage or goes until the end of the stage, it doesn't matter as they will be taken out of the stage and the stage will still be counted as cleared (however this does not apply if the player run out of time or dies during the stage). They will also keep the Blue Yoshi if they were still riding it.
