Super Mario

Climbing Koopas are a variant of Koopa Troopas with the ability to climb around on Chain-Links. They first appear in Super Mario World, and have gone on to reappear in several New Super Mario Bros. series titles.

Climbing Koopas are first encountered by Mario and Luigi in Iggy's Castle. Given that fences appear in Castle levels, Climbing Koopas are found in said areas as well. Climbing Koopas come in two colors: green and red, the latter of which moves faster than the former. Climbing Koopas always move around in a straightforward direction, either horizontal or vertical. When a Climbing Koopa reach the edge of the fence, it flips over to continue climbing on the opposite side. If Mario or Luigi touch a Climbing Koopa from the side, they take damage.

Mario or Luigi can defeat a Climbing Koopa either from throwing a fireball at it while in their Fire form, punching it while on the opposite side of the fence, or by having it move into Mario or Luigi from below.

Unlike regular Koopa Troopas, Climbing Koopas do not turn into Mask Koopas during Fall.

In New Super Mario Bros. sub-series[]

Climbing Koopas also appear in New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and New Super Mario Bros. 2.
