Super Mario Paper Mario

This article is about the enemy debuting Super Mario 64. For the Yoshi's Story enemy, see Clam (Yoshi's Story).
Not to be confused with Clampy.

Clams are a purple underwater species directly based on their real-world counterpart. Aside from appearing as enemies in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, Clams have made few appearances in the Mario series. The most recurring clam species is Clampy, which debuted in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

In Super Mario series[]

Clam DS

Yoshi near an opening Clam with a Red Coin.

Clams are first seen in Super Mario 64 and later reappear in Super Mario 64 DS, in this game, they can be found in the waters of Jolly Roger Bay often storing Red Coins, Shells, and 1-Up Mushrooms inside, whenever Mario or Yoshi comes near, they open up their lids allowing the heroes to obtain whatever treasure is inside, after a few seconds however, they will snap their lids back shut. The Clam can damage the heroes if it slams it's lid shut on them or if they are immobile however when their lids are open, they're completely harmless. Clams cannot be destroyed in these games.

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Clams reappear in Super Mario Galaxy. In this game, Clams can be found in the Beach Bowl Galaxy holding Star Chips or Coins, Clams once again open their lids as Mario/Luigi approaches and shut them after a while damaging the plumbers if they're snapped, Clams are completely harmless otherwise but other than that, Clams cannot be destroyed. In this game, the Clams now have a pair of eyes.

Clams are much rarer this time as well.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash[]
