"Hmm? I see you have no mustache. Poor, bald, little creature. It's not a fair fight for you, but luckily, I'm not a fair fighter. Let's go!"
—Chief Chilly

Chief Chilly is a giant Chill Bully introduced in Super Mario 64 DS. He has a giant, icy body with a giant yellow crown, a large white mustache, and green boots.

Appearances[]

Super Mario 64 DS[]

Luigi (wearing a Mario Cap) fighting Chief Chilly in Super Mario 64 DS.

During the events of Super Mario 64 DS, Chief Chilly was the one who kidnapped Wario as he was jealous of his mustache. He is fought by Luigi, although technically can also be fought by Mario or Wario if he wears the Mario Cap and Wario Cap respectively.

The player needs at least 31 Power Stars to battle Chief Chilly, as his domain, Chief Chilly Challenge, is on the second floor of Princess Peach's Castle, which requires the Bowser Key from Bowser in the Fire Sea to access. Chief Chilly Challenge is located is the room with the Snowman's Land painting, and it is only accessible by Luigi because it requires him to use a Power Flower to become transparent, walk through the mirror, and jump into the Wario painting behind it. Chief Chilly is located as the end of his course.

Chief Chilly's battle takes place on an icy platform. Chief Chilly's attacks involve him ramming into Luigi. He has to knock Chief Chilly into the icy water to damage him. In doing so, Chief Chilly bounces around the edge of the icy platform, causing chunks of it to sink into the water. Luigi has to knock Chief Chilly into the water three times to defeat him and obtain the Wario Key required to rescue Wario.

Mario Kart DS[]

Chief Chilly MKDS

Chief Chilly as he appears in Mario Kart DS.

Chief Chilly is the boss of Level 6 in Mission Mode in Mario Kart DS. Luigi is selected as the character who must fight him, like in Super Mario 64 DS. Here, Luigi has to use Triple Mushrooms to boost into Chief Chilly and knock him into the water to attack it. It is essentially a harder version of the boss fight against Big Bully in Level 1. Chief Chilly has to be pushed into the water a total of three times, much like in Super Mario 64 DS, and doing so clears the mission.

When Chief Chilly is pushed into the water the first time, he jumps out and returns to the middle. After being knocked into the water a second time, Chief Chilly gains a new move in that he jumps over Luigi if he tries to zoom into him from the front. To knock Chief Chilly off a third and final time, Luigi has to either hit him from the side, while Chief Chilly is not looking or while Chief Chilly attempts to charge into him. Otherwise, whenever Chief Chilly jumps, Luigi is very likely to fall into the water, costing him a balloon.

Trivia[]

  • It's possible to fight Chief Chilly as Yoshi if you can glitch through the Mirror. Chief Chilly has his own unique dialogue for Yoshi as well. Yoshi can still beat Chief Chilly with ground pounds and slide kicks.
  • Chief Chilly's facial expressions resembles that of the Millennium Star's.
