Mario arrives in Chestnut Valley by jumping off of a bridge in Autumn Mountain. He is searching for Bobby so that he can open the Water Vellumental Shrine.

To the right of where Mario falls down is the 1st Not-Bottomless Hole. Fixing the Not-Bottomless Hole reveals a small hole that yields a 100-coin when hammered. Behind the 1st Not-Bottomless Hole is the 1st Question Block, which contains a 100-coin. To the left of the Question Block is the 2nd Not-Bottomless Hole on a wall. Further left is the 3rd Not-Bottomless Hole, which drops a heart that heals 20 HP. In front of the 1st Not-Bottomless Hole is a bag of confetti and a slope that leads down to a chest that contains the No.34 Collectible Treasure Sturdy Crates.

Continuing up the path, there is a large slope where large chestnuts are rolling down the hill. The chestnuts do 5 damage and knock Mario off the path. On the 1st hill, the path is two chestnuts wide, and there is a indent in the wall that Mario can hide in. On the 2nd hill, the path is one chestnut wide, and there is are two indents in the wall that Mario can hide in. The 2nd indent must be hammered so that Mario can enter. Also, right above the 2nd indent is Bobby next to a treasure chest.

At the top of the hill, there is an Origami Goomba who is knocking the chestnuts out of a tree. After defeating the Origami Goomba, Mario can hammer the tree to release another chestnut containing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Toads, who call themselves the Chestnut Trio. To the far left of the tree, there is a ledge that contains a heart that restores 100 HP. Behind the heart is the 4th Not-Bottomless Hole. To the right of the 4th Not-Bottomless Hole is the 5th Not-Bottomless Hole. To the right of the 5th Not-Bottomless Hole is another ledge that leads behind the tree. To the right of the tree, on the above the ledge, is the 6th Not-Bottomless Hole.

To the right, there is a series of trees that drop chestnuts onto the ground. There are four places that drop chestnuts, with the 1st one being separate from the rest. The other three are is a line. The chestnuts also drop in order with it starting from the left and ending to the right. This repeats indefinitely. After the 4th chestnut, Mario can jump down to the ledge containing Bobby. Behind Bobby is a chest that contains the No.35 Collectible Treasure Sign.

After pulling Bobby out of the ground, Bobby will return to following Mario. After the point where Mario rescues Bobby, there are another four sports where chestnuts fall. These four occur in a row, but fall right to left. Further along the path is a Save Block. If Mario goes down a ledge, in front of the Save Block, he will alert an Origami Goomba, and cause the Origami Goomba to climb up a nearby tree. After hitting the tree, Mario is attacked by 3 Origami Galoombas, along with the Origami Goomba. In front of the tree is a treasure chest that contains the No.36 Collectible Treasure Spinning Shells. This is the last Collectible Treasure in Chestnut Valley.

To the right of the Save Block is another path. On the left wall of the path is the 7th Not-Bottomless Hole. As Mario and Bobby continue down the path, three chestnuts come down from the left. Bobby gets hits by one of these chestnuts, and he is sent flying. Two more chestnuts come in from the right. When Mario gets trapped between the five chestnuts, five Origami Galoombas come out of the chestnuts and attack him. Further down the path is the 8th Not-Bottomless Hole.
