Cheep Chump is a battle minigame which appears in Mario Party DS. As a battle minigame, it can be played by having all four players land on the same colour space and selecting its name from the roulette wheel, as with free-for-all minigames; this also unlocks it for free play.
Layout[]
The minigame takes place within a small pool by the side of a short, wooden bridge. A formation of rocks surrounds the outer edge of the pool, and there are some wooden logs positioned throughout the water, mostly on the left side, serving as a boundary. The pool is inhabited by a Mega Cheep Cheep and two Cheep Cheeps, one of which is larger but not as much as the Mega Cheep Cheep.
Cheep Chump is played from the Touch Screen, with the upper screen showing the locations of the Cheep Cheeps and the characters.
Introduction[]
The characters are in the center of a pool. As the Mega Cheep Cheep starts to emerge, the characters become alarmed (indicated by an exclamation mark at their forehead), and each of them swim to a corner of the pool as the Mega Cheep Cheep generates a whirlpool before retreating deeper into the water again.
Gameplay[]
The objective is for each character to swim around the lake, avoiding the whirlpools being created by the Mega Cheep Cheep and the two Cheep Cheeps. A Mega Cheep Cheep creates a larger whirlpool covering more of the pool, and is therefore harder to avoid. If a character gets caught into a whirlpool, they are briefly eaten by the Cheep Cheep before being spat out and eliminated from the minigame. The minigame has a Time Limit of 30 seconds, and whoever survives by then is the winner. The minigame ends prematurely if only one character is remaining or if every character is sucked into a whirlpool; the latter instance results in the minigame ending in a tie.
Ending[]
The winners (that is, those who survived) will be shown celebrating, while the losers sulk. The game can end without a loser if the Cheep Cheeps fail to suck up anyone in the pool. In the case of a tie, everyone sulks.

Etymology[]
The minigame's name is a pun on "Cheep Cheep" and "chump," the latter referring to a loser.
