Mario Party

A Change Space is an object in the Mario Party series. It first appears in Mario Party 9, in which it is named Shuffle Space, and returns in Mario Party 10 under its current name.

Description[]

A Change Space is a green space depicting two arrows forming a circle loop; in Mario Party 9, these arrows are purple, but in Mario Party 10, they are orange and were made thinner.

Change Spaces are relatively common, and if a Captain lands on one, the game randomly shuffles the turn order of the characters. Following this, the Captain who is now first in the turn order gets to roll the Dice Block, and the other characters switch positions on the vehicle to correspond to their turn order. The turn order decided by the Change Space remains for the rest of the playthrough on the board until a character lands onto another Change Space.

In Mario Party series[]

Mario Party 9[]

On the Boo's Horror Castle, Blooper Beach, and Magma Mine boards, when a player lands on a Change Space just before being attacked by a Boo, Sushi, or magma, respectively, the new turn order comes into effect before the events take place. As a result, the first character in the new turn order is affected, even though they have not technically begun their turn yet, instead of whoever landed on the Change Space.

Mario Party 10[]

Change Spaces retain the same functionality, except that the roulette can now be stopped. Unlike the previous game, in Airship Central and Chaos Castle, the event comes into effect first, such as getting attacked by Bowser's Airship or Bowser himself, before a different turn order is decided.
