Chain Chomp Sprint is a minigame in Mario Superstar Baseball. It takes place at Wario Palace. While the minigame does not return in Mario Super Sluggers, there is a similar minigame named Blooper Baserun.
Gameplay[]
There are four participants, and they have to collect Jewels placed all across the home plate while avoiding being hit by a Chain Chomp. The Chain Chomp spends most of its time sleeping, but whenever it wakes up, the characters must stop moving, otherwise the Chain Chomp lunges at them. Whenever a character is hit by the Chain Chomp, they lose half their collected gems. A red Jewel sometimes appears on one of the bases, and collecting it is worth ten individual Jewels. A Mushroom sometimes appears on the home plate, and collecting it causes its user to run around the home plate faster. While under the effects of a Mushroom, it is harder for the character to stop moving, potentially leaving them open to being hit by the Chain Chomp. Whoever collects the most Jewels within the time limit is the winner.
As with the other minigames, Chain Chomp Sprint comes in four difficulty levels: Mushroom, Flower, Star, and Special. The first three difficulty levels have the time limit set to 60 seconds whereas the latter has it at 90 seconds. Furthermore, the first three difficulty levels have a minimum requirement of Jewels that has to be collected: 20 for the Mushroom level; 30 for the Flower level; and 40 for the Star level. In the Special difficulty, there is no minimum requirement, and the winner is whoever has the most Jewels at the end.
Chain Chomp Sprint is also featured in Challenge Mode, in which the player's character must compete against three Magikoopas.
