Chain-Chomp Challenge is a minigame in Mario Power Tennis. It takes place in Wario Factory Court, and each character is in their own lane.
Gameplay[]
The object for each of the four characters is to feed tennis balls to Chain-Chompss to score points. While a Chain-Chomp is in its normal state, a characters earns a point for each ball it consumes. A Bob-omb causes a Chain Chomp to enter an enraged state, but two points are instead earned per each tennis ball. If the red Chain-Chomp is hit by another Bob-omb, the Chain-Chomp chases the character. In such an occurrence, the player must press (or shake the Wii Remote in the New Play Control! version) so that their character reaches a FLUDD-like nozzle to calm the Chain-Chomp with a spray of water. Otherwise, if the character is hit, they lose points.
The minigame also features water balls, which are an alternative way to calm an angered Chain-Chomp. However, if a water ball hits a Chain-Chomp in its regular state, it sleeps and does not eat tennis balls. If a Chain-Chomp is asleep, it can be woken with a Bob-omb. It is possible to hit objects into another character's Chain-Chomp, therefore affecting their progress.
Once the timer runs out, whoever has the most points by the end is the winner.
Difficulty levels[]
The original Nintendo GameCube version has a condition for each difficulty level:
- Peckish Chomp (Easy): All characters start with zero points.
- Hungry Chomp (Normal): Opponents have a ten point advantage.
- Famished Chomp (Hard): Opponents have a thirty point advantage.
