Stages, levels, or locations with a castle theme are areas associated with castles or forts. They are one of the most common, reoccurring themes in the Mario franchise.
Other traits and features[]
One of the main traits of castle-themed stages is that the majority of the stage takes place inside of a castle. Castle-themed levels are very common as the final area of a Super Mario Bros. game. Princess Peach's Castle and Bowser's Castle are two of the most important and well known castles in the series.
Enemies tend to vary depending on the castle-themed level. Since the majority of castle-themed levels are associated with Bowser, the enemies are usually members of the Koopa Troop. The most common enemies of castle-themed stages are Dry Bones, Thwomps, and Podoboos. Lava is by far the most common hazard of castle-themed stages, making most of them part fire-themed as well.
Examples[]
- Princess Peach's Castle - Various games
- Bowser's Castle - Various games (also fire-themed)
