Mario Party

Castle Clearout is an extra minigame in Mario Party 9.

Gameplay[]

Castle Clearout supports either one player or two players.

Single-player[]

The player has to first select a level, of which there are fifty in total. If it is their first time playing, only the first level is available. During gameplay, the player has to clear levels by placing a group of six marbles onto the ground to clear the marbles with a star pattern on them, as well as any similarly colored marbles. To accomplish this, the player can rotate the marbles to match colors with them. Clearing a group of identically-colored marbles in either a Line, Pyramid, or Hexagon formation also clears any other marbles of the same color. Similarly to Tetris or other puzzle games, the player must avoid having the marbles touch the glowing red line at the top, otherwise they lose at the minigame.

As the levels progress, the marbles gradually fall at faster speeds, and the number of marbles to start out with also increases gradually. Later levels gradually add yellow and purple marbles in the mix, aside from the default red, blue, and green colors.

Each time a level is cleared, the player can earn two Party Points.

Two players[]

Both players start with an empty field, but they can select whether to have hints or handicaps. The gameplay is mostly identical as in single-player. Additionally, clearing marbles in one of the formations causes marbles to fall onto the opponent's field. A player wins when their opponent's marbles stack above the red line. Whoever manages to win three out of five games is the overall winner.

Upon finishing the game, players can earn five Party Points.
