Cascading Stones, alternatively named falling stone blocks, are a recurring object in the Yoshi platforming games. They first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Description[]

Cascading Stones are rock platforms featured in varying square-shaped and rectangle-shaped formations. When a Yoshi stands on a Cascading Stone, it begins to fall down into the ground or off the screen. A Cascading Stone shakes when the Yoshi stands on one, indicating that it will fall. In Yoshi's New Island, Cascading Stones were changed to fall faster than before after shaking.

In Yoshi franchise[]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[]

Here, they are named falling stone blocks, and appear in Visit Koopa And Para-Koopa, Lakitu's Wall, and Shifting Platforms Ahead. In the remake Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, falling stone blocks also appear in Exercise in the Skies.

Yoshi's Island DS[]

Aside from regular Cascading Stones, which mainly appear in Rock 'n' Fall, the game also introduces Cascading Stones with different behaviors. Some Cascading Stones only fall if the terrain under them is destroyed with an egg, while others are on the ground, and can be raised with a switch. There are also Sliding Blocks, which appear in Tap-Tap's Sunken Cave and Teeth-Chattering Chill Zone.

Yoshi's New Island[]

Cascading Stones are featured in Koopa Canyon.

Yoshi's Woolly World[]

Cascading Stones are made out of yarn, and they can be found in Lakitu Peekaboo.
