The Cannonball Chuck is a new Bros. Attack for Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, replacing Jet-Board Bash. Being a Special Attack, it costs 9 Special Points to perform. Its location is Doop Doop Dunes, with the Nabbit dropping the move's Attack Pieces upon being captured in Nabbit Multiplication.

Description[]

Procedure[]

Mario starts the move by summoning the cannonball. Luigi then grabs on and Mario starts spinning. Press the A button when Mario has the cannonball pointing north. If he throws the cannonball at this point, Mario will send the ball flying northward. Luigi then has to steer the cannonball into his target.

Controls[]

Phase 1[]

  • Throw Cannonball - A Button

Phase 2[]

  • Steer - Circle Pad
  • Strike - B Button

Ratings[]

Striking the ground just releases the shockwave to hurt all grounded enemies and results in an Okay! rating. Striking an enemy from the side results in a Good! rating. Failure to press B or striking the wrong target causes a Great! rating. Striking the proper target will net the Excellent! rating.

Usage[]

Cannonball Chuck is Mario's single-strongest attack in the game if you successfully land an Excellent! rating, even outperforming Toad Trail against Paper enemies. It's exceedingly powerful when used against single targets, or multiple strong targets that are close together (such as the Bowser Jr. Duo), while it suffers against large crowds and/or stacked Paper enemies. The attack also scales off of Mario & Luigi's raw POW stat, rather than their equipped Boots and Hammers, meaning it'll do consistently high damage no matter what.
