A Cannon Box is a power-up which first appears in Super Mario 3D World.
Description[]
Cannon Boxes are blocks that can be worn on the upper half of a character, not unlike Propeller Boxes. Cannon Boxes are specifically for shooting cannonballs from a cannon on the front. Cannon Boxes are colored black and depict a skull emblem on the left and right sides.
Many Cannon Boxes are disguised as ? Blocks at first, but a character can reveal the Cannon Box by hitting it and must do again to wear it. As a character wears a Cannon Box, it takes on a color corresponding to them, like red for Mario and green for Luigi, but the skull decor does not change to the corresponding character emblem.
In Super Mario series[]
Super Mario 3D World[]
Characters who wear a Cannon Box shoot cannonballs continually, which is necessary to break cracked walls and Rock Blocks. If the player holds
or
(
or
on a Wii Remote), they can charge a shot to increase how far the cannonball travels upon being shot.
Cannon Boxes also appear in the form of obstacles, titled Cannons, which shoot cannonballs repeatedly, but it can become a usable Cannon Box by either hitting it either from below or with a cannonball.
Super Mario Maker 2[]
Cannon Boxes are not in the base game, but rather introduced in the version 3.0.0 update. They are exclusive to the Super Mario 3D World style. The shots can be either short-range or long-range by charging the shot, now done in a manner comparable to Fire Koopa Clown Cars.
