A cake is a real-world dessert which has made several appearances in the Mario franchise, in which they first appear in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It is often associated with Princess Peach.

In the Super Mario series[]

Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[]

In the intro, Princess Peach invites Mario to her castle for some cake that she had baked. Because she has been kidnapped by Bowser, Mario does not have it until the ending, when Peach is rescued. Mario is never seen eating the cake, although the "The End" has a graphic of cake with a wooden sign reading "Thank you" and has a small figure of both Mario and Peach on top. In Super Mario 64 DS, there is also a figure of Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario on the cake to account for them also being playable characters and are therefore also invited by Peach to have cake during the ending.

In the Mario Party series[]

Mario Party[]

One of the boards, Peach's Birthday Cake, takes place on a giant cake supposedly made by Princess Peach, even though the characters are a lot smaller. This is the first time since Super Mario 64 to associate a cake with Princess Peach. The board returns in Mario Party Superstars.

In Wario Land II[]

Cake is an object that Cooks carry with them on a fork. Cooks try to throw a Cake at Wario, and if he eats one, he becomes Fat Wario.

In the Paper Mario series[]

In both Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the only ingredient used for making Cake is Cake Mix.

Paper Mario[]

A Cake can be simply made by cooking a Cake Mix that is only found in Shy Guy's Toy Box. Also, if Mario gets back Tayce T.'s stolen Frying Pan, she will award him with a Cake. The Cake is actually then needed to get Gourmet Guy away from blocking the spot who then drops the Cookbook. Later, Princess Peach must make a Cake for Gourmet Guy who has a craving for one. The Cake, altogether, restores 15 FP making it a rather useful item.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]

Like in the previous game, the Cake can be made by simply cooking a Cake Mix but they can only be bought at the Pianta Parlor. Later at the Glitz Pit, Mario will receive a Cake from one of his fans and this cake can actually restore everything much like resting on an Inn bed. There is a second Cake but it's poisoned and if Mario takes it, his partners will be unable to aid him in his next fight (which was against Chomp Country). It turns out that Rawk Hawk poisoned the Cake.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[]

Cake is only featured during the battle against Midbus in Fawful Theater, where the audience sometimes supports Midbus by throwing a cake at him, although Bowser can either punch the cake or use his Vacuum Block on one so that he eats it instead. In either character's case, eating the cake heals 20 of their HP.
