Cage-in Cookin' is one of three Bowser Mini-games which appears in Mario Party 5. It later made a reappearance in Mario Party: The Top 100.
Layout[]
Cage-in Cookin' takes place within the mouth of a large, mountainous Bowser statue, where Bowser's throne can be found against the wall at the end. The mouth of the location is shown be supported by pillar structures, four of which appear around Bowser's throne at the end, two on each side. A spiked collar like that of Bowser's is placed at the top, center, and bottom of the pillar.
Gameplay[]
Before gameplay starts, a scene is shown of Bowser stepping off his throne, then the camera pans to reveal the four characters each trapped within a cage.
The players are each trapped in a cage. The object of the game is to get out of the cage before Bowser finishes his walk and uses his Fire Breath. To have their character escape from their cage, the player must press eight buttons, decided by the minigame at random, that individually appear on the cage's lock monitor as fast as possible, having approximately five seconds to do so. Pressing the wrong button briefly prevents the player from being able to activate one of the buttons. When the correct combination of buttons has been entered, the character's cage opens, and they run outside the cave to safety. Any character who manages to escape from their cage is the winner.
In Mario Party: The Top 100, the criteria was changed so that whoever escapes their cage first is the winner. Furthermore, each character has only ten seconds to escape their cage, and whoever does not manage to escape automatically ends in last place.
Ending[]
The brief endings only appear in Mario Party 5. If at least one character escapes, the camera pans to whoever escaped, showing that they are relieved. If all four characters escape, the theme for getting a Draw is played, although every character is shown doing their relief animation while Bowser expresses disappointment.
