Paper Mario

Buzzy Beetle Towers are an enemy with a few appearances in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario Maker.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

In Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2, a Buzzy Beetle Tower consists of a stack of Buzzy Beetles. In Paper Mario: Color Splash, it instead consists of a Big Buzzy Beetle, a regular Buzzy Beetle, a Small Buzzy Beetle, and also a green Spike Guy ironically.

Behavior[]

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, its attack involves the Buzzy Beetles spinning as the Spike Guy runs on top, then the Big Buzzy Beetle launches itself into Mario. A Spike Guy can fall off the stack from Mario's hammer attack, upon which it attacks by landing on Mario headfirst before climbing back up the tower. If a KO Hammer is used, the tower spins in place, and the Spike Guy strikes a pose as the audience cheers. The POW Block causes the tower to collapse, flipping the Buzzy Beetles onto their back as the Spike Guy flees from battle. From this point, the Buzzy Beetles act as regular enemies.

In Super Mario series[]

In Super Mario Maker and its follow-ups, Buzzy Beetle Towers can be created by stacking Buzzy Beetles onto one another.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash[]

A single Buzzy Beetle Tower is encountered in The Emerald Circus. During the battle, if Mario defeats the Spike Guy, a different one drops from a trapeze at the start of the next turn to take its place. The Buzzy Beetle Tower is unaffected by Mario's jump attack, but Mario's hammer attack can damage the Buzzy Beetles take damage, although not the Spike Guy. The Buzzy Beetle Tower is vulnerable to Ice Flowers, Eekhammers, Hurlhammers, and Things.
