Buzzbees are an enemy in Donkey Kong 3 and its sequels. One first appears in Green House.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
They are bees with large eyes, and carry a spear with them.
In Donkey Kong 3's arcade version, a Buzzbee's sprite shows it with a dark gray body, dark gray eyes, an orange face, white wings, and orange antennae, but after round 12, Buzzbees appear more aggressive, having a red body, light blue angry eyebrows, a more pointed light blue stinger, and longer red antennae. In Donkey Kong 3's Nintendo Entertainment System, Buzzbees prior to round 9 have a similar appearance to the earlier Buzzbees in the arcade version, except they have a blue body and blue eyes, and are thinner. After round 9, Buzzbees similarly have a design change, but their eyes are differently shaped, their longer antennae (which are blue) are more pointed upward, they are thinner than their arcade counterpart, just like the initial Buzzbees, and both their head and arms are orange.
Behavior[]
In Donkey Kong 3, while trying to steal Stanley's flowers, Buzzbees attack by either throwing darts or swooping down from their hives. In the arcade version, if a Buzzbee does this successfully, it turns into a Super Bee. One or two Buzzbees sometimes escort a Beespy, in which case they are known as Guards.
In Green House[]
The game alarm features a Buzzbee, which was unnamed at the time, poking a cat.
In Donkey Kong series[]
Donkey Kong 3[]
Buzzbees are one of the main enemies, and they are first encountered in Round 1. They commonly emerge from the beehives in Stanley's greenhouse.
Donkey Kong 3: Dai Gyakushū[]
Buzzbees return as an enemy. Here, upon being sprayed once, a Buzzbee transforms into a Super Bee, and spraying it again defeats it.
Donkey Kong 3 (Game & Watch)[]
Buzzbees make a reappearance, now being known as simply "bees." Stanley and Donkey Kong use their sprayers to force the bees to sting each other.
