Burn is an aliment that appears in several Mario role-playing games.

Appearances

Paper Mario series

BurnPMTTYD
Burn is first seen in Paper Mario where it is usually caused by fire-based enemies such as Embers. The Burn status is similar to Poisoned except it lasts fewer turns. This ailment can be cured with either Refresh or a Tasty Tonic. This rule applies the same for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door but in Super Paper Mario, if Mario is burned by an enemy, the player must shake the Wii Remote to get rid of the status. In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, if Mario is burned by an enemy, he loses the turn.

Mario & Luigi series

In the Mario & Luigi series, the Burn condition usually causes either Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, or Bowser to lose their turn. This condition can be healed with a Refreshing Herb. Also, in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, there is a much harmful version of Burn called Char and victims of Char take 30 damage as a pose to the regular 10 damage inflicted from Burn. The aliment also appears in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.
