Bubbas are large orange Cheep-Cheeps that first appear in Super Mario 64. They are carnivorous fish that can swallow anyone whole. Bubbas are commonly indestructible and can only be avoided. Bubbas have since appeared in Mario Golf, Mario Party, and Super Mario Sunshine.
Related species to Bubbas include Boss Bass, Big Berthas, and Cheep Chomps.
History[]
Super Mario 64[]
Bubbas make their debut in Super Mario 64 in this game, they are only seen in Tiny-Huge Island. They have large mouths which can swallow Mario as their only attack, making him die and lose a life. They are rather rare enemies as only two appear in the whole game, Bubbas are also indestructible and cannot be defeated in any way. Mario can only avoid these colossal fish, the Bubbas only attack as Mario gets close so if he stays a good distance away, he has a better chance of being safe. Bubbas also have a smaller sub-species called Bub which is found in Dire, Dire Docks.
In Super Mario 64 DS. The Bubbas have been replaced by Big Bertha, unlike the Bubbas, the Big Berthas can be defeated but the only way to defeat a Big Bertha is for either Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, or Wario to use a Mega Mushroom and walk into the Big Bertha.
Mario Golf[]
Bubbas appear in Mario Golf along with Blurps who can eat the balls when they land in the water. Bubbas also are smaller in the game. Other than that their role in this game isn't as big as it was previously.
Mario Party[]
They also appear in Mario Party on Yoshi's Tropical Island. When players land on a Happening Space, a Bubba appears, eats Toad (who holds the Stars) and spits him out in Bowser's former location (as this happens, Bowser surfs to the Toad's former location).
Super Mario Sunshine[]
Bubbas are also in Super Mario Sunshine. In this game, they drag Mario down to the seabed. Strangely, if Mario is holding a Fruit, they can't grab onto him. They are much smaller, in fact they are about the size of Mario himself. They appear in Gelato Beach, Noki Bay, and The Bottle. They are also indestructible and cannot be defeated.
Trivia[]
- They resemble Koi fish as their species origin.
