BrosAttack

The Starshade Bros. are explaining Bros. Attacks.

Bros. Attacks, also called Bros. Moves, are special techniques used by Mario and Luigi in the Mario & Luigi series. They are a genus of attack called Special Attack. These attacks made their debut in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga where Mario and Luigi learned it from the Starshade Bros. in Stardust Fields. Bros. Attacks require BP (Special Points or Bros. Points depending on the game) in order to use them. Bros. Attacks are replaced by Bros. Items in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and are named Special Attacks in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. The same concept returns in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario and Luigi can get more Bros. Attacks by finding two Secret Scrolls where the Hammerhead Bros.' have resided southeast from Beanbean Castle Town. In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Mario and Luigi can get more Bros. Attacks by finding Attack Pieces throughout areas, away reused from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Brickle, the manager of Mushrise Park, instantly gives Luigi all of his Attack Pieces to learn 3D Green Shell.

Types of Bros. Attacks[]

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga[]

Mario's Moves[]

  • Splash Bros.—Learned in a battle against a Stardust Fields Fighter Fly. Mario spins with his arms outstretched while Luigi grabs Mario's legs and the two slam down into their target after going above them.
  • Chopper Bros.—Learned after rescuing Cork and Cask from the barrel in which Popple stuffed them in the Chasteau de Chucklehuck. Mario bashes Luigi's head with his hammer and Luigi gets buried over his head, then Luigi uppercuts Mario from below, propelling him into the air. Mario then swings his hammer and slices the foe with it in a spin attack.
  • Fire Bros.—Learned after Mario gets his hands on the Firebrand technique in Oho Oasis's Fire Temple. Mario throws fireballs that Luigi strikes towards the targeted foe with his hammer.
  • Swing Bros.—Obtain the first Secret Scroll from Thwomp's first minigame. Mario swings Luigi like a hammer ball, sending him towards the target. Luigi then kicks the foe with both his legs.

Luigi's Moves[]

  • Bounce Bros.—Learned in a battle against a Stardust Fields Fighter Fly. The Bros. stack up and jump high and then slam down onto their opponent.
  • Knockback Bros.—Learned after rescuing Cork and Cask from the barrel in which Popple stuffed them in the Chasteau de Chucklehuck. Luigi uses his hammer to squish Mario, then plays golf with him as the ball. Mario then has to kick his target upon reaching them.
  • Thunder Bros.—Learned after Luigi gets his hands on the Thunderhand technique in Oho Oasis's Thunder Temple. Luigi charges up lightning and jumps high off Mario's head. Luigi sends the lightning down onto his foes. Hits all foes.
  • Cyclone Bros.—Obtain the second Secret Scroll from Thwomp's second minigame. Luigi bashes Mario's head with his hammer just like with Knockback Bros., but Mario spins with his arms raised and Luigi jumps onto Mario's hands. The two perform a spin attack towards their target.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story[]

This game reveals that Bros. Attacks constitute one genus of Special Attacks. Unlike in their prior incarnation, the Bros. attacks can be shared by the Mario brothers.

  • Green Shell—This is obtained when you find the ten Attack Pieces that are scattered in a certain area in the Trash Pit. The Bros. kick a Koopa Shell towards their target. This targets a single enemy and changes targets if you kill the target, hence the targeting designation "Single (serial)". This is required to progress to the next area of the Trash Pit.
  • Fire Flower—The Attack Pieces that need to be obtained to get this move is found in the Pump Works, excluding a secret area that can be only accessed with the Drill Bros. move. Mario and Luigi use the titular weapon to transform into their Fire Forms and throw fireballs at their foe. This is done by spamming the correct button and works like the Bros. Flower and Mix Flower from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. This targets foes randomly, hence the targeting designation "All (random)".
  • Jump Helmet—This attack's Attack Pieces appear in the Flab Zone. Luigi puts a yellow Koopa Shell that has a springboard on it on his head and Mario jumps on it to gain momentum for his stomp attack. Luigi has to position his body so Mario can jump off and build more power. If Mario falls, the move fails. Mario then has to stomp on his target. The attack can only target a single foe, thus being designated "Single".
  • Yoo Who Cannon—This attack is gained when the Mario brothers learn how to use Koopa Mario. Mario and Luigi each create three duplicates and the Bros. and their copies hide in eight barrels. Memorise which barrel has which Bro., then press the correct button to fire. This move targets up to eight foes at random with a maximum (outside of the Cholesteroad) of eight strikes (thus getting the designation "All (random)"). Pressing the wrong button weakens the power and voids the rest of the attack.
  • Super Bouncer—This attack is gained when the Mario brothers find the ten Attack Pieces in the Energy Hold. Luigi gets on a pink ball with white starts that Mario launches upwards with a volleyball set. Luigi then has to position his body on top of the ball and smash the foe with the B button. Despite the ball being a rubbery ball, spiny enemies are vulnerable, implying the ball to be solid. Being able to last for up to eight strikes outside of the Cholesteroad, it can target up to eight foes at random, getting the designation "All (random)".
  • Mighty Meteor—This attack is gained when the Mario brothers get all three Star Cures and combine them in Doctor Toadley's clinic. Mario and Luigi use a hammer to send a giant boulder into their target. This can last up to five strikes and targets enemies at random, getting the designation "All (random)". Mario and Luigi are forced to get this attack.
  • Spin Pipe—This attack is gained when the Mario brothers complete the first puzzle that Kuzzle offers in Plack Beach. The Bros. stack up and you have to memorise their order, then press the correct button (A if Luigi is on top, B if Mario is on top) to perform a successful hit. This attack fails if you hit the wrong foe or hit a spiny foe, with the latter damaging the Bro. who isn't on top at the time instead of the target. This targets a single enemy by default and switches to another target if you kill the original target, thus being designated "Single (serial)".
  • Snack Basket—Mario and Luigi get this attack by finding ten Attack Pieces in the Dimble Wood forest. Luigi eats lots of food and his body gets fat, and Mario tosses his brother's bloated body up into the air. Luigi then slams down with all his weight, creating a shockwave that hits all grounded enemies.
  • Magic Window—Mario and Luigi get this attack by defeating three Shroobs in the frozen vault in Bowser Castle. The Bros. jump into a portal, then stomp on the enemy from various angles. This attack can continue forever provided the Bros. can keep up the rhythm and targets enemies at random.
  • Falling Star—Mario and Luigi can get this move by finding ten Attack Pieces in the gardens of Princess Peach's Castle. To attack, Mario and Luigi have to power the star by throwing smaller stars at it, increasing the power. This targets a single foe, thus being designated as "Single".
