A Brick wall, also named rock, is an object that first appears in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and its overseas conversion, Super Mario Bros. 2.
Description[]
Brick walls are a type of block, and despite their name, bricks walls appear to be composed of clumps of hardened dirt or rocks. A few brick walls are found obstructing a path, stacked from floor to ceiling, and they can only be destroyed by placing either a bomb or a Bob-omb near it and having it explode.
In Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and the original Super Mario Bros. 2, the color of the brick wall sprite varies depending on the area, due to the limited palette of the Family Computer Disk System and Nintendo Entertainment System. In the Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Advance remakes, all brick walls have a light, reddish-brown color. The Super Mario Advance sprite is more yellowish because the game utilizes a brighter palette.
In Super Mario Bros. 2[]
Brick walls commonly appear in underground areas, as early as World 1-1. In World 1-3, before Mouser can be fought, the player's character has to destroy the brick walls obstructing the entrance to his area.
