Bramballs are Pokey-like enemies featured mainly in the New Super Mario Bros. series. They are typically found in the jungle and forest areas. Bramballs first appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

A Bramball's body consists of an orange face with yellow spots and long, green brambles for legs. Its feet consists of yellow suction cups, one at the bottom of each bramble.

Behavior[]

A Bramball moves by flipping itself around and planting its feet on flat surfaces. If Mario or a different character hits a Bramball's head from below, it releases coins, but if a Bramball is hit from the top, it is defeated.

In the New Super Mario Bros. sub-series[]

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Bramball Jungle

The Mario Crew encounters a few Bramballs.

Here, a Bramball's main move is moving around a set path by flipping themselves around and planting their feet on flat surfaces. Upon reaching a dead end or an end with no walkable ground beyond, the Bramball will turn back and start moving in the opposite direction. Bramballs are hazardous on the legs and feet and can hurt the plumbers upon contact. Bramballs can be defeated with stomps or the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman, they can also be frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit (this freezes their entire body creating separate ice cubes for each segment). They can also be beaten by tossing a Koopa Shell at them but the shell will be destroyed if it hits one of the legs, hitting a Bramball while launching from a Cannon Pipe will not only defeat it but cause it to drop 20 Coins. Bramballs are seen in World 5-3 with most of them moving slowly while the ones near the end of the level move faster.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Bramball Forest

Some more Bramballs near the Mario Crew.

Bramballs return in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. In these games, they behave as they did previously and are found in levels such as Bramball Woods and Heart of Bramball Woods. In the former, faster Bramballs are seen near the level's beginning and slower ones closer to the end while in the latter, both fast and slow Bramballs appear with a balanced frequency. Bramballs can once again be beaten with stomps or the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman, they can also be frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit. Additionally, during the "bah" instances of the music, their heads turn out completely orange and grow leaf sprouts similar to the Pokeys.

In Mario Golf: Super Rush[]

Bramball Park

A Shy Guy putts near some Bramballs.

Bramballs can be found in Shelltop Sanctuary in certain parts of the course, they act as obstacles to typically avoid and if they're hit by the ball, their heads will spin around.

In other media[]
