The bonus game is a special minigame in Super Mario World and its remake Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2. Mario or Luigi can access it once their total number of Goal Stars, earned from Giant Gates, reaches 100. When this is done, the bonus game automatically starts right after the usual iris fade-out effect at end of the level.
Layout[]
The minigame takes place in a Switch Palace-like room that Mario or Luigi enters via a Warp Pipe. It even plays the same theme as when in a Switch Palace.
Gameplay[]
There are nine Roulette Block-like panels, one of which is in the center while being circled by the other eight. The center block depicts either a Super Mushroom, a Fire Flower, or a Starman while the other eight repeatedly and quickly alternate between them in a roulette fashion. Mario or Luigi has to hit the circling blocks from below to stop their reels on the same item as the one in the center. In a tic-tac-toe-like manner, lining up three of the same item in a row, whether vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, earns the player a 1-Up Mushroom, even if any vertically-matched or horizontally-matched lines do not match the item in the center. Any diagonal matches require the panels to depict the same item as the center one. Mario or Luigi can obtain up to eight 1-Up Mushrooms.
In Mario Roulette[]
The gameplay is based on that of the bonus game's, and it even appears to to take place in the same area as the bonus game. Differences include a lowered wall to the upper-left that shows a square of the game's logo as well as a square showing how many medals they are betting. At the bottom of the wall is a green Warp Pipe instead of light gray like in in Super Mario World.
