The Blue Coin Block is an object which appears in Super Mario 64 and its remake Super Mario 64 DS.

Description[]

Whenever Mario (or Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario in the remake) find a Blue Coin Block, they can Ground Pound it to have a nearby trail of a few Blue Coins appear. Each Blue Coin Block spawns a specifically number of Blue Coins, most commonly either six or seven. A ticking sound plays while the Blue Coins appear, as the player's character has only a short amount of time to collect them. When the Blue Coins are about to disappear, the ticking sound plays faster, and the Blue Coins start to blink. After being used, a Blue Coin Block does not reappear unless the player resets the level.

The use of Blue Coin Blocks are not tied to obtaining any particular Power Star, but given that Blue Coins are worth five Yellow Coins each, collecting the Blue Coins can be necessary to acquire a course's 100-Coin Star.

A Blue Coin Block appears in nearly every main course except Bob-omb Battlefield, Snowman's Land, and Tall, Tall Mountain. The Princess's Secret Slide is the only secret course to have a Blue Coin Block.
